Grasshopper dissection By Chloe Introduction Grasshoppers are complex insects and have many specifics when it comes to their body systems and functions. Grasshoppers, like all insects, have a three part body of a head, thorax, and abdomen. They also have compound eyes like other insects. However, their legs and wings set them apart from others because of the jumping legs as well as walking legs that they use and the layer of wings they use to fly. Amur Leopard By Chloe   Facts leopard has adapted to live in the temperate forests of the Russian Far East and northeastern Chinese provinces. They are known to hide their kills to save it from other predators and eat later. They can also jump up to 20 feet horizontally and 10 feet vertically.                                                        Why is it endangered? Amur leopards are currently threatened by shrinking prey tracts and the illegal wildlife trade. Due to logging and poaching of the prey species, such as roe deer and sika deer, the Amur leopards' food source is dwindling. Their fur is also a coveted resource, fetching up to $1,000 per pelt.                      What is being done to save it? Would I  want to know if I had a genetic predisposition?  By Chloe What is a genetic predisposition? A genetic predisposition is an increased likelihood of developing a particular disease based on a person's genetic makeup.  According to  http://imaginewellnesscentre.com   "They  can affect your energy level, accelerate oxidation, and affect cells function leading you to poor health."  A genetic predisposition results from specific genetic variations that are often inherited from a parent. These genetic changes contribute to the development of a disease but do not directly cause it. Some people with a predisposing genetic variation will never get the disease while others will, even within the same family.                                  Would I want to know if I had a genetic predisposition? Sex Linked Traits By: Chloe What are sex-linked traits? Sex-linked traits are genetic characteristics determined by genes located on sex chromosomes. Sex chromosomes are found within our reproductive cells and determine the sex of an individual. According to  http://science.halleyhosting.com   " Because the gene controlling the trait is located on the sex chromosome, sex linkage is linked to the gender of the individual. Usually such genes are found on the X chromosome.  "  Traits are passed on from one generation to the next by our genes. Genes are segments of DNA found on chromosomes that carry information for protein production and that are responsible for the inheritance of specific traits. Genes exist in alternative forms called alleles. One allele for a trait is inherited from each parent. Like traits that originate from genes on autosomes (non-sex chromosomes), sex-linked traits are passed from parents to offspring through sexual reproduction.

Microscopic organisms typically consist of a single cell, which is either eukaryotic or prokaryotic. The human body is composed of trillions of cells. They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialized functions. Cells also contain the body’s hereditary material and can make copies of themselves. Cells have many parts, each with a different function. Molecules ar e made up of atoms t hat are held together by chemical bonds. These bonds form as a result of the sharing or exchange of electrons  among atoms. The atoms of certain elements readily bond with other atoms to form molecules.  What are M acro-molecules ? A molecule containing a very large number of atoms, such as a protein, nucleic acid, or synthetic polymer.There are four major classes of biological macro-molecules. For example, carbohydrates, lipid, proteins, nucleic acids. Each of these types of macro-molecules performs a wide array of important functions wi thin the cell.                All about me                  by-Chloe My name is Chloe and ever since I was 6, I have dreamed to be a mechanical engineer working at JPL. I got inspired from a trip to JPL just looking at all of the creations these engineers had made. For example, the Mars rover that has been exploring the surface of Mars for 15 years and helping lay the groundwork for NASA's return to the Red Planet. In order to reach my goal in the future, I started to join classes in game designing and robotics classes. After those classes of coding and constructing robots and video games, It was my prior goal to become a mechanical engineer. My hobbies are mainly coding, constructing, a nd rock climbing. I got into rock climbing because its how my parents met each other. After joining a rock climbing team, I was very serious about it.
